Olly Smith – The Mail on Sunday


Olly Smith Wine Editor at Event Magazine, Mail on Sunday, recently discussed the merits of Christopher Merret, who is often credited for having presented the Royal Society with a paper on how to make wine that is ‘brisk and sparkling’ 30 years before Dom Perignon (who is traditionally thought to have invented sparkling wine).

Historical arguments aside, Olly Smith highlighted our Great British sparklers and picked Nyetimber Rose 2008 – a gold winner at the International Wine Challenge –  amongst his favourites, and described it as “rich and zesty with a stellar summery character and amazing quality and finesse.”
