Nyetimber, producers of England’s finest sparkling wine, today announces the launch of its Blanc de Blancs 2009, available at major independent retailers from £40.99.
Made from 100% estate-grown Chardonnay grapes, the 2009 release is the latest in Nyetimber’s history of exceptional vintages, dating back to the pioneering Blanc de Blancs 1992 – England’s first.
Nyetimber uses only its own grapes from its own vineyards, with each parcel being treated uniquely, from hand picking to gentle pressing to vinification in separate tanks. This uncompromising attention to detail has become synonymous with the producer, whose parcel by parcel approach gives control over the nuances and fruit character of the wine. The 2009 vintage is pale gold in colour, with tiny, delicate bubbles that fill the nose with floral and lime aromas, leading to rich notes of pastry and brioche. On the palate, fresh citrus flavours are balanced with an underlying minerality and toasty intensity. The wine is fine and elegant with a long, complex finish, and is already gaining international acclaim, with a pre-release sample having won both a coveted gold medal and ‘Best in Class’ award at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships 2015.
Cherie Spriggs, Nyetimber’s head winemaker, comments: ‘We only produce a Blanc de Blancs using fruit from the finest years, and the 2009 is no exception. The 2009 vintage marks a new era in how our Blanc de Blancs is crafted. As well as making the decision to reintroduce malolactic fermentation, I’ve fermented a small portion of the wine in new oak barrels, which gives an added touch of complexity. We have also included Chardonnay from areas of our vineyards which we haven’t used before for our Blanc de Blancs. These parcels were chosen to create a more complete and balanced wine – one that we’re all extremely proud of.’
