Save The Children Winter Gala

Last Tuesday, London’s Guildhall was transformed into a scene from the imagination of Roald Dahl for the Save The Children Winter Gala.

Since 1919, when the Save the Children fund began, the charity has been focussed on tackling child poverty across the globe, promoting children’s rights, education and welfare and assisting children in emergency situations caused by war or natural disaster. In 2015, Save the Children helped 17.5 million children worldwide. As well as working on a reactive basis, Save the Children runs various long-term projects that aim to create sustainable livelihoods for families, providing valuable education and training and protecting children from poverty. Working in some of the most poverty-stricken areas of the globe, this remarkable charity comes to the aid of the most vulnerable in their time of need.

In celebration of the centenary of the much-loved children’s author, Roald Dahl, Save The Children brought his stories to life to raise funds for the charity’s international work. Luke Evans, Joely Richardson, Myleene Klass, Mary Portas, Poppy Delevingne and Grayson Perry arrived to mark the occasion, adhering closely to the dress code: black tie with a touch of imagination.

Nestled among the corked bottles and scientific equipment at the ‘Marvellous Medicine’ bar, were bottles of Nyetimber – the celebratory toast of the evening. Guests enjoyed a fabulous dinner, entertainment and a silent auction, raising over £800,000 and counting for the charity’s work around the world.

A suitably wonderful evening for a truly magnificent cause.
