1086 by Nyetimber Crowned Top in Landmark Tasting of Prestige Cuvées: Battle of the Bubbles

It is with immense pride that we share the news: our prestige cuvée, 1086 by Nyetimber 2010, has been awarded top-scoring sparkling wine in the world at the Battle of the Bubbles – a blind tasting of iconic Champagnes and global prestige cuvées held at this year’s London Wine Fair.

Curated by Ronan Sayburn MS and Sarah Abbott MW, the tasting featured 26 of the world’s most revered sparkling wines – from Dom Pérignon 2013 and Krug Grande Cuvée to Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2013 and Ruinart Dom Ruinart 2010. Judged blind by a panel of 16 leading critics, journalists, and industry experts – including Oz Clarke, Alice Lascelles, and Peter Richards MW – the results reflected exceptional quality, with the blind format ensuring each wine was assessed purely on merit.

Among such exceptional company, 1086 by Nyetimber emerged as the highest-scoring wine overall – a result that crowned our prestige cuvée the top global sparkling wine of the tasting, with the outcome recognised across the international wine press.

This was no ordinary competition. Battle of the Bubbles brought together the most celebrated cuvées from Champagne and the world’s leading sparkling wine regions in a blind tasting designed to assess each wine on merit alone.

Crafted from our most outstanding vineyard parcels and produced only in the most exceptional years, 1086 by Nyetimber represents the pinnacle of English Sparkling Wine.

This recognition is especially meaningful to us. When Eric Heerema acquired Nyetimber in 2006, he believed the South of England had all the conditions needed to produce wines to rival the very best in the world. He also knew that, for English Sparkling Wine to be recognised on the world stage, England would need a prestige cuvée.

That vision came to life with the first release of 1086. Now, judged purely on quality in a field of international icons, the 2010 vintage has found its place at the top- an expression of richness, precision, and elegance.
