Harvest is halfway

The harvest at Nyetimber is progressing well across our West Sussex and Hampshire based vineyards.

Starting on 12th of October, our experienced picking team has worked efficiently over the past week – with all Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes now being pressed and transported to the Winery, where the early stages of winemaking are underway.

The 2015 harvest has yielded some excellent fruit so far, and pressing is going very well with the careful precision of our 8 tonne Coquard PAI system. By making the journey from Vineyard to Pressing Centre in as little time as possible, the grapes are pressed at their optimum ripeness, ensuring the juice is of the best quality.

This weekend, the harvest moved onto one of our Hampshire based vineyards – Chalkvale. Located near Stockbridge, the vineyard enjoys lime-rich and chalky soil, which is of course suggested by its name! Nearly 60 hectares of Chardonnay vines are grown by Nyetimber in Hampshire, with an additional site at Hazeldown in Longstock, which will be picked by hand later this week.

In the meantime, our teams have returned to our Tillington vineyards where the remaining parcels of Chardonnay are now ready to harvest.
